Note: I wanted to wrap up the “mob” theme by the end of November, but I recently purchased Carlito’s Way, Goodfellas and Scarface, which means it will continue for a few more days as I get through my collection of gangster films.
Synopsis: Washed-up boxer and idiot pal somehow manage to complicate a relatively simple job.
Blurb From the VHS Jacket: “Swingers co-stars Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn team up with rap superstar Sean Combs and the legendary Peter Falk (“Columbo”) in this wickedly hilarious tale of two hapless guys trying to go bad...with criminally comic results.”
What Did I Learn?: If you press the overhead light too many times, the stewardess will eventually get angry with you.
You Might Like This Movie If: You want to see Peter Falk interact with an annoying twit in a comedy about organized crime without watching Mikey and Nicky. (It's a long clip, but well worth 8 minutes)
Really?: The mob boss hates Vince Vaughn’s character, and knows he’s a fuckup, yet he sends him to New York anyway, based only on Favreau vouching for him? I don’t think so.
Rating: Made is one of the best gangster comedies ever created. Favreau and Vaughn enjoy some great chemistry, but the scenes of Falk on the verge of a meltdown as Vaughn becomes increasingly clueless are comedic gold. 8/10 stars.
