The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Happy Belated Halloween!! (My apologies – I wanted to post this review yesterday, but I got a little sidetracked with a family issue)

Halloween Movie #2 (Please click the links to read my Halloween Movie reviews from 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014).

Synopsis: Um....what the hell did I just watch?

Blurb From the DVD Jacket: “Give yourself over to absolute pleasure...”

What Did I Learn?: Susan Sarandon looked pretty good in her underwear, circa 1975. (Mind you, that’s not even a remotely good enough reason to watch this film)

Really?: Oh God, where do I begin? Ok, here’s a big one: I had a hard time believing Brad and Janet would meekly allow themselves to be separated, and then spend the night in Frank-n-Furter’s castle after they witnessed him commit a cold-blooded murder with a pickaxe.

Rating: I realize that reviewing The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a bit of a fool’s errand; this movie has legions of hard-core fans (an old friend from high school recently called it “untouchable”), and you either love it, or hate it with a fiery passion. As you may have already guessed, I’m in the latter camp; in fact, I turned off my DVD player after about an hour. While I was impressed by Tim Curry’s tour-de-force performance as the evil Frank-n-Furter (which is why I’m giving RHPS three stars), the movie itself is loud, creepy and obnoxious, and even the musical numbers are terrible. Untouchable? I’d call it unwatchable. 3/10 stars.
