Synopsis: Mafia hit man meets attractive, out-of-town hit woman, and...take a wild guess what comes next.
Blurb From the VHS Jacket: “Hired killers by day. Devoted lovers by night.”
What Did I Learn?: You might want to re-think the idea of asking your ex-wife for honest, objective advice regarding your sex life.
You Might Like This Movie If: You want to see Jack Nicholson’s warm and sensitive side.
Really?: Prizzi’s Honor is a very dark comedy, so it seems unfair to judge it by this standard (Turner agrees to Nicholson’s offer of marriage on their first date, for crying out loud!), but honestly: how many professional hit men would take a cab directly to the home of the guy they’ve been assigned to whack?
Rating: Prizzi’s Honor is an enjoyable movie (Nicholson gives a great performance, but William Hickey steals the show as the creepy patriarch of the Prizzi family), and certainly falls more into the lavish, Godfather-ish genre of gangster films (the soundtrack consists entirely of classical music, for instance) than the more realistic Goodfellas school. My one objection would be that for a comedy, Prizzi’s Honor wasn’t really all that funny. 7/10 stars.
